Hej

FO/M - Marquesas Islands
The "CanAm DX Group" says they prefer regular commercial air flights
and commercial lodging and electricity, not "roughing it" with long
boat voyages, tents and generators. On this next adventure, TX7T,
will be F6BCW, K4UEE, K5PI, W5MJ, W5RF, W5SJ, VA7DX and VE7KW. They
note that F6BCW lived in French Polynesia for several years and
several years ago did an operation from the site they have selected.
Having him as a native French speaker also helps. They plan three 500
watt stations, the legal maximum there, and two hexbeams, one which
does 40M, a homebrew Moxon for 30 and 15, wire beam for 80, and
vertical for 160. One station will do 40, 17 and 10. The second one
will do 80, 20 and 12, and the third will do 160, 30 and 15. This is
the setup they used at TX5T in the Australs last year. Low band
enthusiasts in the group pushed for a winter date and November 6-17
was chosen after much discussion.

They note Hiva Oa is the same distance from the US mainland as Oahu,
Hawaii. Despite the low sunspot numbers they expect good conditions
to NA and Asia, with Europe more difficult. They will do their best
on that.

They love CW but are not ignoring the popularity of FT8 and will have
a "solid presence" on that mode to give newer DXers an all-time new
one. They also will make a point to do more SSB, after DXers noted
less operation on SSB from TX5T last year.

After looking at ship-ahead options, they have chosen to take
everything as checked baggage, probably using an airfreight service to
ship some items to the Marquesas upon arrival in Tahiti. Some of
their antenna parts are in golf bags or ski bags, both things that
airlines are used to. http://www.marquesas2019.com/. They also note
some generous commercial sponsors and appreciate all donations. The
costs are substantial. QSL via M0URX.

Hej Boye

Tak for update.

Hej

FO/M – Marquesas Island
The TX7T team report “TX7T has arrived after having to circle the Hiva Oa for an hour due to bad weather.
All stations are set up with two hex beams ready to go. 80 and 160 antennas in a day or so.
Antenna placement and erection is difficult due to terrain.
