Hej

The dates are now locked in, November 3-13, with the MV Alfred Wallace departing Cairns, Australia for the voyage. The five ops currently signed on are VK2IR, VK3YP, VK2RF, VK2OK, VK2PN with others to be announced. With time away from jobs a consideration for the ops, Mellish is being put off to 2022. They are working with the license regulator, the Australian Maritime College, for the 2X1 VK9W callsign. If they can’t get that, they plan to use VK9HR again. The antennas are a full set of 20-10M VDAs, fullsize 30M vertical and fullsize 40M vertical and 160/80 inverted L.

Hej

VK3YP, John, gives us more details on the November 2021 Hellenic Amateur Radio Association of Australia Willis Island DXpedition. The team has arranged transportation with Tradewind charters from Cairns and will be sailing aboard the MV Alfred Wallace departing Cairns. They plan to be QRV between November 3rd and 13th. The current team includes VK2IR, VK3YP, VK2RF, VK2OK and VK2PN, with several additional operators expected to be announced. The original plan was to go to both Willi Island and Mellish Reef, however “due to time constraints (operators away too long from their jobs etc.) Mellish Reef will be on the radar for activation in 2022”. The team hope to be able to secure a 2X1 callsign (VK9W) through the licensing regulator, Australian Maritime College. If not, they will use their VK9HR callsign. Activity will be on CW, SSB and FT8. They plan to have a website and logo within the next few weeks.
